disable ogg transcoding & default madsonic GUI / player

Unread post by MonsieurPaul »

Hello,

Is there any way to have ogg played directly in the standard madsonic GUI just as it works with minisub?
All my audio is encoded in ogg transcoding uses a lot of CPU.

I tried the http://forum.madsonic.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=384 with no luck...

nobody knows if it's possible to play ogg files in subsonic without transcoding?
I'd really like to make it works :)

You could test to see if using the HTML5 setup will work.

Hi, thank you for you answer.

I tried the html5 thing before but it didn't seem to help.

I've just set up a new madsonic instance, I will try that again .

Thanks for the reply. I'd like to hear if you make any progress. I prefer to use ogg for when I'm mobile as it is clearly more efficient than mp3. So far Madsonic seems to just say in the log that because mp3 is a playable format, it just passes it to the Android player and won't do the mp3>ogg transcoding defined. Unfortunately, this forces me to maintain a separate Subsonic 4.8 site just for mobile use.

Maybe I'm just missing something simple, but so far I haven't been able to get ogg transcoding to work with Madsonic.

I spent some time tinkering with trying to get ogg to play in the default desktop player and I can't get it to work.

The weird thing is that the ogg output plays fine on the Android app, but won't play on the the desktop JW Player even though it is listed as supported on their website:

http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/jw ... t-support/

I can only speculate that something in the Madsonic/Subsonic code prevents it from playing properly, or perhaps it's a Java issue as some of the Linux installations have solved some issues by using the Oracle version of Java.

Then again it may be a browser issue.

I would love to see the desktop play ogg in the embedded player, then I could just output everything as ogg and not have to set up a seperate site for mobile use.

is because the jw player is limited in flash mode to only mp3 and acc, and html5 mode only to ogg vobis, madsonic in html5 mode is limited to video files only.

regards.
