Genre Artist Filter

Unread post by boco »

A feature I find really liking in MusicCabinet is the Genre drop down on the Left navigation pane. It filters the list and only shows the artists that belong to the selected genre. Not sure how hard this would be to implement with your build but I could see the same drop down on madsonic below the folder drop down. That would be a great feature others may enjoy.

Thanks,
Boco

Just noticed this feature is in the TO DO List. "Genre Browser"

Look forward to seeing the first versions.

As always, thanks for the great work.

if only there weren't thousands of mp3 files in my library that have genres that make no sense...

it would be cool if there were a way to create 'meta genres'... meaning, you could create a metagenre called _dubstep, and you would tell Madsonic that the metagenre _dubstep INCLUDES the id3tag genres dubstep, darkstep, clubstep, lovestep, momstep, whatever step

The idea being, seems so many people have a different idea of what genres are...

by allowing the creation, in the server db, or a "metagenre", you can 'fix' hundreds of miscreant genres at once....

the work flow would be:

"Create/Manage Metagenre:"

Asks for name of metagenre...

You tell it "_dance"....

Then it gives you a toggle list (like in "Radio").

Then you save it...

You now have a metagenre, and it can be selected as a genre...

so You make a metagenre called "+dance" and select, techno, dubstep, disco, garage, dnb, funk" etc, now You can have a more efficient genre selection method, and it helps to solve the problem of having so many errant genres in your library.

hi there,

yes you are right, for 5.1 i plan a complete new tag system, to support GENRE, BRANCHE, SINGLE & MULTITAG, also for the pandora feature.
Big picture is you can select with stored profiles your grouped, sorted, filtered TAGS, ARTISTS, GENRE

So you can easily get your profile-based combined music.

i add this to my todo list !

best regards

I am able to set genres to my videos using MediaMonkey. Is there a way to pull that data into Madsonic to have video genres too? That would be great!!
