Does Madsonic read meta-data?

Unread post by Eli »

Does madsonic read file meta-data like musiccabinet or is it more limited like subsonic?

I have nearly 10k albums, so I can't change the structure of my library, which is:

artist/album (# of tracks) (CDDB ID)/track # - song title

I use the # of tracks and CDDB ID on the end of the album folder name to prevent albums with the same name but different content (re-releases, remasters, etc) from over-writing other albums and keeping them separate.

Unfortunately musiccabinet development has stopped...

I would say install Madsonic..
point it to 1 album and see if it's behavior suites you..

I used both....Musiccabinet didn't evolve so I would say give it a try

Its a pretty simple question, but I can't find the answer. Installing it is not the best way to answer such a simple question.

Your Question implied that we know which data is read by Musiccabinet.

I don't know and I don't care...
You must learn to read what somebody with no ties to this product who is trying to help you is saying.
You obviously didn't search here or looked at the features.

So some metadata is been read but does it suits your needs ? Only you will know after trying..

The screenshot on the first page of madsonic.org gives away your answer
The demo tab 3th from left on the homepage answer your question..

Does this suffice?

So I went ahead and installed Madsonic. Unfortunately the sorting and naming of albums is NOT from the meta-data but from the folder structure. This is a serious flaw in any modern player. The code should exist in musiccabinet to get a good start on moving away from this huge flaw coming from Subsonic's roots.

I thought this was user electable under Settings/General. Could have sworn this was all settled some time ago as this was a source of constant debate in the Subsonic forums back around version 4.7.
