madsonic tunnel network interface ?

Since I installed madsonic from a package of this forum, on a Synology NAS, I recognized a new tun0 network interface. (maybe it existed already before, but I never noticed)

Does anybody know, if madsonic is responsible for this and if so, what is the tunnel interface needed for?
