5.x to 6.x db converstion tool

Can a quick conversion tool be created to export users from a 5.x environment and import them into a 6.x environment?
I'm wanting to look into converting my 5.x server up to 6.x, so I can test the LDAP stuff.

Hoping this option is coming closer to reality, if it's possible. Starting to have some issues with my 5.x user database (I can't reset passwords or change permissions on SOME user accounts, but can on others), so I'm wanting to upgrade to 6.x (which I am running on another VM at the moment), and don't want to have to force my users to re-enter their information.

Madevil - any progress on this? Would really like to make my main server a 6.x server instead of sticking with 5.x.
